Michigan State University is Nominee for the first Michigan Campus Compact Engaged Campus of the Year Award!

Engaged Campus of the Year 2012On Wednesday, April 18, MSU will be among nine colleges and universities in the state recognized as finalist nominees for the first Michigan Campus Compact (MCC) Engaged Campus of the year award, http://www.micampuscompact.org/.  The winner of the award will be announced at the Michigan Non-Profit Association 2012 Giving and Volunteering Celebration at the State Capitol, 11:00AM-1:00PM; (Celebration: 11:00-12:00. Lunch: 12:00-1:00).

The MCC Engaged Campus of the Year Award recognizes the best efforts and accomplishments in meeting national Campus Compact’s Indicators of Engagement. Campus Compact’s Indicators of Engagement were created to help campuses achieve broader institutionalization of civic and community engagement and to identify, document and disseminate best practices of civic engagement that demonstrate successful strategies. Indicators measure, document and recognize community and civic engagement in the areas of Institutional Culture, Curriculum and Pedagogy, Faculty Roles and Rewards, Mechanisms and Resources, and Community-Campus Exchange, http://www.compact.org/indicators-of-engagement-project-categories-page/?zoom_highlight=indicators.   MSU is honored to have been nominated for this important award!

Anna Orsini, a senior in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, was recently named a Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact. MSU Curricular Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Awards

The MSU Curricular Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Awards have been bestowed on 24 recipients in 14 of the university’s 17 degree-granting colleges at a ceremony on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the University Club in East Lansing.

The annual award recognizes innovative and/or sustained effort in the area of academic, curricular or co-curricular service-learning/civic engagement that is specifically linked with the mission and efforts of the college.   Read more…

MSU Receives 2008 Presidential Award for Community Service

The MSU Center for Service-Learning and Civic Engagement (CSLCE) has a long and dedicated history of linking students and faculty to community. The CSLCE assists students, faculty/staff, and community partners at every step of the way to create and manage service and engagement opportunities by:

    • Linking students with appropriate service opportunities and providing orientation sessions regarding program expectations, logistics, safety, and other pertinent information
    • Assisting faculty in integrating service-learning, community and civic engagement into courses
    • Working with community partners to establish and enhance requested service opportunities
